Apparently, husbands "nest" too.
Sunday (the day Damon and I share "off") he tackled any number of weird household tasks that I asked him to do and even came up with some on his own. He cleaned and washed the car, installed the baby seat and cleaned the bathroom... This time he even scrubbed the floor, sink, and toilet. (normally I have to go back and do those) He also cleaned his studio, fixed the vacuum, and installed 2 curtain rods for the valances in the baby's room.
Today he had a bunch of laundry set out "to do." I am hoping he does because most of my pregnancy clothes are in there!
I managed to get most of both of our hospital bags packed, did a couple of mammoth shopping trips and sewed fun orange trim on some valances and dust ruffles a friend gave me. I will be adding a bit more to the hospital bags as soon as Damon finishes the laundry- then they go in the trunk.
The weekend was really great- I had something fun and exciting to focus on and I did not worry about work for one minute (at least not until late last night). It was a very "freeing" experience.
One of my "projects" for the weekend was to make an accent blanket for the baby. I found some bright orange fleece (ON SALE) and the pattern hearkens back to the pattern on the blanket I have carried around since childhood. I believe mine was yellow- though now the color is gone. Yesterday afternoon, I set out to sew the orange blanket binding. About halfway through I was ready to give up because the seams were not perfectly straight. Then I realized, if it is imperfect, at least my daughter will know that I did it for her.... When I finished I began to cry. I remember my mom resewing my blanket binding on multiple times, and putting that silky satin up to my face brought back some really wonderful feelings.
Hows the baby growing? Well, she grows and grows. She appears to have her back lying more on one side of my body than the other- When gazing down, my belly is asymmetrical. Interestingly enough- I have more stretch marks on that side. Small price to pay for those sweet little elbows and feets.
How is Daddy doing (other than the nesting impulse this weekend)? Damon lives for the moment she arrives.
I love it when I walk into the studio/den and he puts his hand out to feel the baby and giggles to himself like he and the baby are in on some wild joke.
I can be in the kitchen doing some mundane task (like chopping vegetables) and he will come up behind me and give me a big hug around the belly. He kisses me on the neck and says "That's my baby," with the same grand excitement as if he were pointing out a newly discovered star.
He nuzzles up to her (and me) any chance he can get... Even our mornings shared in our OH SO SMALL bathroom have become a place where they commune.
Damon and I may not be perfect, but this baby is going to come into this world and fall into the arms of two very loving, loyal, and joyful people.
