Half a Year Already

Mina,

6 months. Seriously? How the hell did that happen? I swear, just hours ago, you were not even born.

Yet at the same time, so much has happened this month that it seems perhaps that the expanse of time between last month and this month should have been longer that 31 days. Maybe time is dilating and then folding back on itself to play tricks on me.

Lots of first this month...

You got your first two teeth. They are REALLY sharp- You leave dents on my fingers if I mistakenly let you get a hold of them. It hurts. Don't bite Mamma, it is not nice.

You said Ma-Ma and Kee... However, I am not certain that you grasp their meanings well enough to call these your REAL first words. I think when you say MMMM!!! You mean Mamma, and in your quest to get my attention, you were saying it emphatically and it came out ma-ma. And Kee has come out twice, but your refuse to repeat it. I guess we should just have the camera on you NON-STOP.

Speaking of the kitties, you torment them. I try to keep them at a safe distance, but you lurch at them with your whole weight, and body slam them in an attempt to get their entire width and fur IN YOUR MOUTH. You mercilessly grab fistfuls of hair to pull yourself closer, then thrust your face and gaping mouth into cat flank. Still, they seem compelled to be close to you, especially Pan. I have dubbed him "Mina's Kitty." He does not let you pet him much, but he is more tolerant than the others. Here you can see his sister's disdain with your hand and foot attack!

You continue to become more mobile, however, you continue to move backwards instead of forwards. In fact, you keep getting stuck under the couch.

Lastly, you had your first Halloween. As you will come to find out, this holiday is sacred in our house. This is your father's very favorite holiday and I am pretty certain that if I let him, he would dress you in costume everyday. You had two costumes this year. I had a great time hand-painting wings so that you may be a be a beautiful butterfly.

To appease your father, we also dressed you as Robin. There WERE girl Robins, but as far as I can tell, the general public only sees Robin as a boy. If I were to do it again, I would have put a giant red bow on your head. But all-told, you were the cutest Robin I have ever seen.

I have taken ridiculous amounts of pictures of you now that I have a nice big memory card. It is 2GB, which by the time you read this, will probably be minuscule and ridiculous- be sure to ask me about floppy disks and beta tapes.

Being your mamma is increasingly more fun. In the next couple of weeks, I will probably have to start chasing your around the house and defend the poor kitties from your tirades... But it will be a joy.

You know, people say "you don't know until you have your own," and I always believed that was a bunch of clap-trap glurge meant to pressure you into having kids. But now I get it. Perhaps it is a chemical/biological holdover to help humans propagate their species- but it is a wonderful chemical/biological link to have. It is great fun being your parent.

Love,
The Mamma
