We took our first long trip away from you this month. Getting off the ground nearly broke my heart in two- but obviously I survived. You stayed with Grandma and Grandpa (aka Pop-pop). You got to play with dogs and a kitten, and you got to see lots and lots of horses. Of course, Grandma let you eat a lot of things I do not let you eat- but I am pretty sure that is part of her job. Everyday you wore yourself out and slept like a champ. Of course, we missed you SO MUCH. It was nice to finish a vacation and have something wonderful to look forward to at home. You are our little ball of sunshine! Now we are all home and back to normal- Seems all is well with the world.
I wonder if I should, perhaps start posting little snippets more often- Now that you seem to be developing at a lightning pace.
Of course, you are growing- You weigh 24 pounds 8 ounces and you are 30 1/4 inches tall! Imagine that just over a year ago you were 7 pounds 5.6 ounces and only 19.5 inches. Mind boggling.
You have favorite toys... A small cellphone that makes dialing noises and rings. You hold it to the back of your head and speak as if you are having an in depth phone conversation. Then there is the long sandalwood prayer-bead necklace. You found it in my cupboard and I placed it around your neck. You strutted as if I had just laid 10 carats of diamonds upon your shoulders. Of course, you must watched carefully so you do not trip or swallow any of it- but I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of jewelry in your future.
New words pop up daily a few have stuck- "nana" (for banana), fish, keys, box, dog (sounds like gog), Pop-Pop, bird (which sounds a lot like fish) and no-no...
Yes my dearest, "no-no" has become your key phrase and often it is directed at us. A couple of days ago your father swiped some cat treats out of your hand (they were organic chicken cat treats if that makes you feel better). He gently, but firmly said "no-no Mina, we don't eat cat treats." About this time, I sat you in your highchair to eat a real (non cat-treat) dinner. From this perch you could clearly see your daddy making himself a plate of chicken pasta. At the top of your lungs, you remark "NO NO DADDA!!!!" followed by tumultuous grumblings that only you could understand. I imagine this is a fun house mirror glimpse of teenager-hood.
I am not sure if I will ever be able to help you understand how very much I love you and how deeply you have touched my life. I feel like the luckiest person on Earth... Even when you manage to get your diaper off and pee on the carpet...
When I stop to think about it, my heart aches...
Love,
Mamma
