Mina the 15 Month Old Menace

Dear Minakat,

You can climb. You can put on a hat. You can run... In fact, you can climb down from the table you have been standing on (?!?), don your favorite polka dot hat (being sure to pull it over your eyes), and run full steam ahead into whatever or whomever might be in front of you.

Laughter ensues. Yours and mine.

You say more words- more than I can remember at the moment. Current favorites are OUCH!, house, home, OW-SIE (outside), spahh box (spongebob), cow- Mooooo, fog (frog), HEY, down, up, eyes, doss (draw), bite... Plus all the regulars and more that I cannot remember at the moment. You sing your "ABC's" and can get to the letter "i" before it becomes completely garbled only for you to come out on the other side of the alphabet song with "no Iee no mmm ABC." You are putting words together, mostly to ask for things you want... "Owside, Mamma" or "HEY!!! DADDA!!!"

You are a crayon eating, marker wielding draw-a-holic. I cannot write lists anymore. I used to do this regularly. Now you come running at me, peel the paper from my hands and use your nimble baby fingers to render the pen from my grasp. Quickly you are on the floor drawing, then you flip the page to reveal an untainted side. Draw, the flip and repeat. Get up from seat, move to stairway, draw, flip, draw, move to kitchen floor, repeat. If said paper that you steal from my hand has too much writing on it, you flip out. About a week ago there was an actual meltdown because the paper you had was 'used up' and you could not communicate to me WHY it was unacceptable. You kept flipping it back over, looking for a place fit for coloring... When I said "do you need a new piece of paper?" you straightened up and stopped hyperventilating.

Your comprehension fascinates me. You have taken to helping with household chores. You enjoy wiping up your highchair, sweeping, and dusting. Most exciting is that you are learning these things FROM ME!!! I am not known for my amazing cleaning skills, but I am learning- and obviously, you are picking up on that. Maybe when you are my age, you won't be re-teaching yourself basic housekeeping.

OH!!! I almost forgot- YOU PEED IN THE POTTY. Now, I know it is early and we are not expecting miracles here... but you will use the potty before bathtime. This is the only time you appear to use the potty on purpose, but it is a start and I could not be more proud. Perhaps our general lack of privacy in the house is a good thing.

Your favorite foods continue to be grapes and cheese, and in fact you ask for them at almost every meal. Except that grapes are actually apples, and you use the word "apple" for "hungry." We introduced you to popsicles and you are an addict. You would be most pleased if you could have one in each hand. However, you share... sometimes too much. Yesterday you were feeding the RatCat corn. You would take a couple of pieces in hand, put them under his nose and say "bite." Of course, being such a super cat, he will gladly oblige you- to your most joyful delight.

Your Dadda has become your most favoritest person, as is the way things go. Throughout the day you will ask for him... You say "Dadda?" and look around hopefully. When he walks in the door, you light up and run head-first, giggling and tripping over your own feet, straight into his arms. After your bath, you call from upstairs "COMMON DADDA!" while you impatiently await his arrival for "ABC" time. You love to read books together. It is fun to hear you read to him- you copy his tone and sing-song perfectly. The words could use a little work, but we are still absolutely impressed.

This has been a big and very fun month.

I love you bunches!!!

~Mamma
