Mina Joy 31 Months

My lovely copperhead-

This month's message may be a little short, and most of the things you do now require much more narration than I imagine anyone (except me) would ever want to read. I will try to keep it short. I make no promises though.

To a degree, your world revolves around Jovie. Or perhaps her world revolves around you... Or you revolve around each other like a pair of moons near Jupiter... Anyhow- I can't see you and not think of your sister and vice versa. I am so proud of you as a big sister. You have taken on this role with a great deal of flair, and an equal amount of humor.

I am constantly on the watch, because you are so very helpful that you will feed Jovie while I am not looking. You share your food- which is excellent, but Jovie has not fully figured out solids yet and I spend much of my time fishing things out of her cheeks~ I know you don't do this with malice, and it is very cute. Annoying, but cute.

We have yet to put you two in the same room and there are solid reasons for this. The largest of which is your ability to make each other laugh so uproariously, that I am 99% positive that neither of you will ever sleep again. I know you get a little lonely in your room, so hopefully you girls will figure it out soon. If nothing else, I imagine summer is going to make you kids so tired that you won't have any choice but to sleep-

I realize I am talking a lot about your sister here, but she is seriously such a large part of your life now that if Daddy, Jovie, and I walked into a room where you are, your first instinct is to say JOVIIIEEEEE!!! and run straight to her. Mom and Dad are lesser than or equal to chopped liver. But what more could parents want?

I also cannot forget your cousin Caroline. She is now playing with you on a regular basis. This is miraculous. Caroline is an incredibly smart girl (Bradshaws are a smart lot) and I had worried that she would be too involved in other things to want to play with you and Jovie. Not a chance. There may be the occasional squabble over something pink and sparkly, but I see you guys being friends for a long time. I daydream about you and Jovie and Caroline being the Three Amigos (Amigas?). Best friends forever...

Jump cut to: You love to sing (still) and your favorite song is "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." You sing different pieces of it here and there. You are also a big fan of "Deck the Halls" and will sing that one in your sleep, seriously.

You love to dance "like a ballerina" and you REALLY love the NUMBER OF THE DAY. This is your name for the advent calendar. It is something special you and your daddy share. He walks in the door from work and you ask to have the number of the day. I think you may be sad when you find out that the number of the day is not permanent.

We had professional pictures taken recently. OH BLOODY HELL DID IT SUCK. You (and Jovie) were dressed in crisp white shirts with white tights and fluffy tulle skirts. You were the incarnation of adorable. You were so excited about being in the photographer's studio- until that first flash went off in your face. OH JEBUS. ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. From that point on it was a nightmare. You cried, you threw a fit, you refused to smile, refused to look at the camera, stuck your hands in your mouth.... GUH. It was f*cking nuts. It is miraculous that we got the pictures we did. But I am pretty sure we will stay away from that kind of photography for a while.

And- that's about it... Or really, that is about all I can condense from my brain into coherent sentences. Your age is fascinating. You are no longer really a toddler, but you are not quite a preschooler yet either. You are in that vast neverland of "in-between." I love this age, I love your quips and your laughs and your dance. I love you.

Love,

Mamma
