New Eyes

I just got some trial contacts I have been putting of getting due to financial restrictions. I have been wearing glasses not because I like them, but because they were the practical choice... Ie, my insurance company would pay $300 toward glasses or $150 toward contacts.

I should know better than to do this because when I wear glasses for an extended period of time, I revert to a very severe lack of self-confidence. Glasses give me another thing to hide behind and I start to lose my identity and use them as an excuse not to make myself look my best.

Sure, everyone likes to play naughty librarian and peer lustily at their partner over dark rimmed spectacles- but that is a role to play. That is too involved and too tiring to do on a day to day basis. So I become who I was in the 3rd grade- awkward and uncomfortable with my own face. Anyhoo

I have in some new contacts- the latest in science, research, and development. Soft contacts for people with astigmatism. They work GREAT but everything looks slightly different from the glasses view- Everything looks bigger and a bit wider. My hands look like gigantic pan flat man hands. I sometimes feel like my brain is playing tricks on me- this often happens when going from glasses to contacts, and perhaps that is part of the allure of going back to glasses... My hands look less like my husbands-

But other than the weird brain tricks, I am loving the contacts because I can sleep in them. This came in VERY handy when Mina was wee. Being able to not fumble for glasses in the middle of the night was great- and now that these correct my astigmatism, I can see things in a sharpness I had not anticipated. Things I might now want to see- Like the amount of cat hair that has wittled itself into our family room carpet-
