New Things in First Born Daughter Land

Mina is becoming more like a toddler everyday... Those "terrible twos" are here(which I believe are actually the wholly uncomfortable time between 18 months and 4 years)and she is learning how to ignore us- with great panache'. I could be standing 2 feet away, saying her name over and over again, and she is WAY too busy to look up from her building blocks unless the word "popsicle" somehow makes its way out of my mouth- I promise, I don't bribe her with them. This is just demonstrates how intent she is on loving popsicles and ignoring me~

Our freezer is on the bottom half of our fridge- an arrangement I quite liked before having children because it follows the laws of physics (cold sinks) and in addition, I have to get down on my knees to get ice cream. Now, it is perhaps a bit of a hindrance... Yesterday while I was taking a shower (around 10am) Mina brought Damon the ice cream container and a spoon- Perhaps I did not feed her enough breakfast? This morning, I was having a hard time getting out of bed (being enormously pregnant and all), so we read some books as a family and snuggled. Mina went to her room to find something to play with as she often does- at least, that is what I thought she was doing.

2 minutes of unexplained silence go by and then I hear the running patter of happy feet as Mina bursts into our bedroom, heroically holding 2 unopened popsicles in her hand. For those who may not know the layout of my house, this involves her walking down our very steep stairs (she turned on the stairway light for safety), going to the fridge and wrestling popsicles out of the tetris like geometry I have created for space saving in our freezer, and walking back upstairs to hand them to me and ask to eat one.

I was very tempted to give her one as a reward for her resourcefulness and perseverance, but Damon told me no, and I made french toast instead.

These things I find her doing make me laugh so hard- last night we got home from a lovely family dinner and while I was in the bathroom, Mina put on her new aqua rain boots (3 sizes too big), plopped herself down in her carseat (which is awaiting a new assignment), and proceeded to eat the devil's food cookies Damon had stashed somewhere in the house- She was essentially hiding from me, not making a sound, and downing these low fat, high-sugar chocolate concoctions that Damon was pretty sure he had hidden very well...

Where do they come up with this stuff?
