18 Month Belated Update

Dear Mina,

Nearly a month ago I wrote your newsletter. But, being clumsy (as always) I managed to cause the internet to delete the posting before I got it officially posted. It has taken me THIS LONG to get around to doing it again- and I am sorry. More on that part later-

The biggest thing we got to experience this month was your first interactive Halloween. I spent hours working on a purple satin BatGirl costume. If, perchance you have forgotten by the time you read this, your father has brainwashed you into loving all things batman. Anyhoo- I made a pretty cute little purple jumpsuit for you and your daddy made a nifty utility belt.

Prior attempts to getting you in your costume ended badly- As in, Mina, crying incessantly and throwing herself on the floor. Halloween morning, I bribed you with candy. That seemed to distract you long enough to help you learn to enjoy looking like Batgirl. I was even able to get you to wear a domino mask (aka glasses) with the addition of more candy.

When the time came, we were able to go see your Cousin Caroline and trick-or-treat alongside her. BOY WAS THAT FUN. It took you a while to realize that people were giving you candy. At first, you would just stare at the bowl (the way a dog stares at a ham), and the kind homeowners would plop a piece of candy into your hand or into your bucket.

But it did not take long before you were all too happy to grab candy from the bowl. Sometimes we had to work to make sure you did not take too much (as there is only so much candy your daddy and I can eat). Overall it was GREAT fun, but I do have to say I was quite disappointed with the lack of fruit flavored candy. Starburst, skittles, and those weird (BUT DELICIOUS) fruit flavored tootsie rolls (my favorite). I guess chocolate is en vogue, but give me skittles over MnMs any day. I say this because, in case you have not figured it out by now, when we "check over" your candy to make sure it is "ok" we are really picking out the stuff we want to eat. Lucky for you, you love chocolate~

Lets see- in other news, I am still dealing with some morning sickness and it makes life not so fun. But thankfully my "morning sickness' actually hits late in the evening, most often after you have gone to bed. Though you are still pretty sure that all tooth brushing must end with gagging noises. Soon I will be all better... Very soon (I hope)

You continue to surprise and amaze me everyday. You are moving closer to the "terrible twos" and you make your opinions known- very loudly. But I am proud that you know what you want and often I envy your ability to convey it without embarrassment. There are days I would love to throw myself on the floor because I do not get what I want. I have tried this with your dad. It does not work. So enjoy it while it lasts my love.

It has been a great month and I look forward to watching your continued growth. You are going to be an amazing big sister. I hope your sibling gets your smile
